Innovating for Impact – Value-Based Care in Action
CHILD is proud to showcase projects from the MOH ACE Value-Based Healthcare Conference in August 2024, which highlight how innovation, technology, and evidence-based approaches are driving improvements in health outcomes while ensuring cost-effectiveness. These projects exemplify Singapore’s commitment to patient-centric and cost-effective healthcare solutions.
- Enhancing Respiratory Health Assessments
To improve the patient experience in assessing respiratory health, the Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine team from Tan Tock Seng Hospital partnered with Synapxe and the Health Services and Outcomes Research team from the National Healthcare Group. They implemented an AI-powered chatbot to streamline the patient journey for lung function tests. By automating scheduling, reminders, and post-test follow-ups, the chatbot reduces administrative burdens, alleviates patient anxiety, and enhances care delivery. Early results show improvements in efficiency, patient satisfaction, and reduced no-show rates.
- Increasing Access to Autism Care Through Telerehabilitation for Parent Coaching
To improve access to care for children with autism, the National University Hospital Singapore and the National University of Singapore explored the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of telerehabilitation for parent coaching. Conducted through a randomized controlled trial, the results revealed that telerehabilitation delivers outcomes comparable to face-to-face care while achieving significant cost savings of up to 48.8%. This approach improves accessiand reduces financial strain, offering vital support for families and enhancing children’s learning.
- Cost-Effective Mobile Clinics for Diabetic Retinopathy Screening
In a collaboration between Republic Polytechnic, the Republic Polytechnic, the Singapore Eye Research Institute, the Singapore National Eye Centre, and Duke-NUS a model-based cost-effectiveness analysis was conducted to evaluate AI-driven mobile clinics for diabetic retinopathy screening. Findings demonstrated the cost-effectiveness of these mobile clinics compared to traditional models, with savings of up to S$515 per patient and projected lifetime savings of S$15 billion. By empowering primary care providers to deliver preventive screenings, these mobile clinics help reduce hospital strain and align with Healthier SG’s objectives.
