Aims
Increase the ambulation rate and establish cultural and process changes for mobilizing patients in the ward.
Background
Immobility causes functional decline, infections, and prolonged stays. Ambulation culture and tools in the ward were lacking.
Methods
Implemented staff training, walking aids, patient-level communication tools, and caregiver training for mobility support.
Results
Ambulation rate increased to 91% (target: 80%); reduced toileting aid dependency from 100% to 3%; enhanced staff confidence.
Conclusion
Improved patient mobility reduces complications, length of stay, and reliance on diapers while increasing satisfaction.
Lessons Learnt
Staff training, structured workflows, and tools create a sustainable culture for mobilization, improving outcomes.
