About this Content
Aims
The aim of the project is to enhance patient safety, boost nursing productivity, and optimize resource allocation through the implementation of VitalScout, an innovative project for automated, continuous, and remote vital signs monitoring.
Background
VitalScout addresses the challenges of manual vital signs acquisition in general wards, which is time-consuming and risks missed readings, potentially leading to patient safety issues. The project is a first in Singapore's public hospitals, integrating wearable devices with the hospital's electronic medical records and automated systems.
Methods
The project involves the deployment of wearable technology for vital signs monitoring, integration with hospital systems, workflow redesign, training programs, and a phased rollout. It includes continuous data collection and analysis, machine learning for predictive analytics, and stakeholder engagement for feedback and improvement.
Results
Initial results show a 98% reduction in vital signs acquisition time for high-risk patients, improved nursing efficiency, enhanced patient safety, and optimized data management. The project demonstrates significant time and resource savings, with potential long-term financial sustainability.
Conclusion
VitalScout represents a significant advancement in hospital-wide patient surveillance, setting a new standard for comprehensive, continuous monitoring in general wards. The project aligns with NTFGH's goals to leverage technology for improved patient outcomes and nursing productivity.
Lessons Learnt
Key lessons include the importance of early stakeholder engagement, robust change management, thorough technical integration planning, comprehensive training strategies, and effective data management. Challenges such as increased workload due to device maintenance and technical integration issues were addressed through comprehensive change management and training programs.
Additional Information
The project is ongoing, with plans for expansion to all NTFGH general wards and potential adoption across NUHS institutions. The implementation strategy includes evaluating results, developing business cases for expansion, and addressing challenges such as IT infrastructure and change management.
