Aims
To develop a method to examine cancer margins in 3D.
Background
Traditional methods for examining cancer margins are limited. 3D imaging offers a comprehensive approach to assessing unexcised tumour tissue.
Methods
3D tissue imaging was used to evaluate cancer margins with fluorescence microscopy to detect tumour, nerve, and blood vessel involvement.
Results
3D imaging successfully visualized cancer margins, providing better sampling of unexcised tumours and detecting critical anatomical features like nerve and blood vessel involvement.
Conclusion
3D tissue imaging is a powerful tool for assessing cancer margins, improving outcomes through better surgical precision.
Lessons Learnt
Method optimization was necessary to integrate 3D imaging into clinical workflows. Adjustments ensured accuracy in human sample variability.
