About this Content
Aims
Develop a workplace-based preceptor training session that addresses specific learning needs of pharmacist preceptors.
Background
Pharmacist preceptors play a critical role, but external training is often limited and generic for institutional needs.
Methods
Baseline survey (n=44) to assess pharmacists' knowledge of 4 ASHP roles (instructing, modelling, coaching, facilitating). Pilot training sessions conducted and feedback collected.
Results
84% had <3 years experience; 34% felt ready to precept. Post-training, 90% found the session useful; 100% planned to apply at least one role.
Conclusion
In-house preceptor training effectively addresses gaps in baseline knowledge and enhances pharmacist preceptor confidence.
Lessons Learnt
Minimal disruptions and tailored training increased acceptance and participation. Newer pharmacists found the session more useful.
