Aims
To reduce the time spent for nurses to perform diaper changes to 5 minutes in rehabilitation wards by 31 August 2023.
Background
Nurses spent an average of 8 minutes performing diaper changes due to disorganized bedside cabinets and consumable retrieval issues.
Methods
Applied the 6S methodology: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, and Safe. Organized bedside cabinets, standardized items, and monitored time efficiencies.
Results
Reduced time for diaper changes from 8.27 minutes to 2.43 minutes. Improved patient care quality and staff satisfaction by ensuring consumables were readily available.
Conclusion
The 6S methodology successfully streamlined bedside cabinet processes, saving time and improving workflow efficiency.
Lessons Learnt
Staff engagement is essential to sustain changes. Organizing bedside consumables improves efficiency and reduces caregiver frustrations.
