About this Content
Aims
Establish a community-based urgent care facility to reduce the burden on ED by managing non-emergency cases.
Background
EDs in Singapore are chronically overcrowded, with a large volume of low acuity (P3) patients.
Methods
Opened a stand-alone Urgent Care Centre (UCC) in Admiralty to treat P3 patients, complementing EDs and providing integrated care with GPs.
Results
UCC handled over 15,000 patients, with 99% of cases being P3 and P4, significantly relieving the ED burden.
Conclusion
The UCC model is proving effective, with high satisfaction rates and reduced ED P3 attendances. Plans are in place to expand the service.
Lessons Learnt
Educating the public on the new urgent care services was essential to gaining trust and increasing utilization.
