Aims
Equip ward nurses with skills and knowledge to perform Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) safely and confidently in inpatient wards.
Background
MOH’s directive to promote PD led to workload surges. Upskilling ward nurses was essential to meet this demand.
Methods
PD training, refresher courses, buddy system, and mentorship by PD Centre nurses. Implemented in Ward 42.
Results
Waiting time reduced from 45 to 10 minutes; automated PD ending reduced from 60 to 0 minutes. Zero peritonitis or exit site infection reported.
Conclusion
Successfully empowered ward nurses to independently perform PD, with plans to upskill additional wards.
Lessons Learnt
Mentorship and phased implementation improved nurses' confidence, resulting in streamlined PD workflows.
