Aims
To improve the exclusive breastfeeding rate with Mother's Own Milk (MOM) in pre-term infants (<1.8 kg) by Day 8 of life.
Background
MOM has significant benefits, including reduced NEC and better neurodevelopment, but availability challenges exist due to alternative PDHM.
Methods
Antenatal education, nurse checklists, post-natal booklets, support groups, and quick reference guides.
Results
Exclusive MOM feeding rates improved from 47% to 59%; structured education and communication increased maternal engagement.
Conclusion
Educating mothers and standardizing communication significantly improve exclusive MOM rates.
Lessons Learnt
Multidisciplinary collaboration and standardized processes are critical for sustaining MOM feeding.
