Aims
To improve early ambulation for postoperative patients with chest tubes and drains, enhancing safety and clinical outcomes.
Background
Postoperative patients with chest tubes and drains faced limited mobility and delayed ambulation, affecting recovery time.
Methods
Designed a multi-chest drain holder and restructured physiotherapy sessions to optimize workflow and reduce ambulation barriers.
Results
Achieved independent ambulation by POD3 for 50% of patients, reducing average discharge time to POD6 and saving $532,539 annually.
Conclusion
Simple innovations like chest drain holders can significantly improve patient outcomes and staff workflow efficiency.
Lessons Learnt
Including multidisciplinary teams and continuous innovation are key to success.
