About this Content
Aims
To determine reference values of TUG test with age and sex stratifications and find cutoff points predicting disability
Background
The TUG test is simple and widely used but lacks normative data for Asian individuals.
Methods
Study 1: Cross-sectional study to collect TUG values. Study 2: Longitudinal cohort study to find TUG cutoffs for disability.
Results
Mean TUG for 60–74 years is 9.8s, cutoff 10.2s for fall risk. For disability, TUG ≥9.45s is predictive.
Conclusion
TUG is useful for screening functional mobility, fall risk, and disability in Singapore.
Lessons Learnt
TUG reference values were established for non-disabled Asian adults. Slow TUG linked to fall risk and disability.
