Gather therapists’ perspectives on essential skills, knowledge, and characteristics required for community rehabilitation in Singapore.
Background
Community rehabilitation requires unique core competencies to meet evolving needs, requiring attraction, retention, and training of AHPs.
Methods
Mixed methods: Thematic analysis of surveys (n=59) and focus group discussion (n=8).
Results
Key attributes: Empathy (30%), Openness (29%), Valuing collaboration (27%). Knowledge: Resources in community (42%), clinical knowledge (29%).
Conclusion
Community therapists are critical partners in enabling clients to live, learn, work, and play. Tailored plans are needed to meet their unique challenges.
Lessons Learnt
Structured frameworks are needed for career progression, mentorship, and collaboration to attract and retain therapists.
