Aims
To reduce manual transfers of wheelchair-bound clients, improving safety and productivity.
Background
Manual transfers caused frequent staff injuries, client discomfort, and workflow inefficiencies in day centers.
Methods
Introduced Kee Low Device (KLD) reclining wheelchairs; implemented ramps, tested automated platforms; conducted trials at Changi and Bedok centers with staff/client feedback.
Results
Manual transfers reduced by 50-75%; staff saved 59 hours/month (Changi) and 50 hours/month (Bedok); risk score reduced from 9 (Medium) to 4 (Low).
Conclusion
KLD successfully enhanced client comfort, reduced risks, and improved staff safety and productivity across centers.
Lessons Learnt
External innovations and multidisciplinary teamwork enabled significant safety improvements and workflow efficiency.
