About this Content
Aims
Examine the effectiveness of animated palliative care videos (PowerFacts) in improving the knowledge and attitudes of nursing home (NH) staff.
Background
NH residents have increasing palliative needs, and palliative care training for NH staff is essential but resource-intensive.
Methods
Used 12 medical animations (PowerFacts) to teach basic palliative knowledge to NH staff, with pre- and post-course assessments to measure knowledge and attitudes.
Results
Significant improvement in knowledge post-course (12.24 to 17.38), but no significant change in attitudes (FATCOD score: 113.21 to 115.74).
Conclusion
The study showed that while animations improved knowledge, further efforts are needed to address the attitudes of staff towards palliative care.
Lessons Learnt
The use of animations was effective in improving knowledge but less effective in altering attitudes.
