About this Content
Aims
To improve the work experience of junior paediatric doctors by simplifying clinical workflows and calculations, making them easily accessible from a mobile device.
Background
The practice of Paediatric Medicine is heavily dependent on age, anthropometric measurements, and associated gender-nomograms, requiring multiple calculation steps. Existing solutions are not mobile-friendly or specific to the clinical context, and hospital-specific workflows are inefficiently accessed.
Methods
The Baby Bear Bot was created as a self-hosted program using Telegram's Bot infrastructure to digitize clinical calculators, workflows, and algorithms. Feedback from clinicians was incorporated into the design.
Results
The Bot led to a 65% increase in reported clinical confidence, a 70% increase in reported work efficiency, and a 67% increase in perceived improved provision of care. It has 866 users with a steady average of 466 uses per month.
Conclusion
The Baby Bear Bot has significantly improved clinical workflows for junior doctors, reducing mental load and increasing efficiency.
Lessons Learnt
Developing the Bot in-house maximized impact and mitigated costs. Using an existing platform increased uptake, and interface design was crucial to success.
Additional Information
The Bot is privately self-hosted with minimal costs and has been incorporated into the Singhealth AM Buddy application.
