About this Content
Aims
To improve patient outcomes and reduce hospital readmissions for NIV patients through the Tele-NIV project, which integrates real-time monitoring and telemedicine solutions.
Background
The Tele-NIV project was initiated at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital to address inefficiencies in monitoring and managing non-invasive ventilation (NIV) patients, leading to delayed interventions and increased readmissions.
Methods
The project involved integrating real-time vital signs monitoring with NIV devices, using a centralized mobile platform for data transmission, and implementing a phased approach with pilot rollout, data collection, and iterative refinements based on stakeholder feedback.
Results
The initiative resulted in a 44% reduction in ICU readmissions, improved in-hospital therapy compliance from 65% to 92%, and increased patient satisfaction from 60% to 88%.
Conclusion
The Tele-NIV system is positioned as a scalable solution for broader adoption in managing chronic respiratory diseases, demonstrating long-term viability and impact.
Lessons Learnt
Key lessons include the importance of early and continuous stakeholder engagement, clear communication of benefits, iterative testing and refinement, and robust training and ongoing support.
