About this Content
Aims
Increase supervised feeding compliance in the geriatric ward from 15.5% to 100% within six months.
Background
Dependence on oral feeding increases pneumonia risk. Past incidents led to the creation of supervised feeding guidelines, but compliance was inconsistent.
Methods
Reinforced guidelines through training and weekly roll calls; rolled out written protocols to clarify roles for supervised versus assisted feeding.
Results
Achieved 100% compliance within one month but noted decline over time; estimated cost avoidance of $11K annually by reducing inappropriate recommendations.
Conclusion
Sustained compliance requires periodic training, robust guidelines, and monitoring mechanisms.
Lessons Learnt
Ongoing reminders, staff engagement, and clear, sustainable protocols are essential for long-term adherence to supervised feeding.
