Aims
To explore memorable experiences and childhood memories via reminiscence in an individual's life to improve emotional well-being in nursing home residents.
Background
The lack of innovative programs focusing on reminiscence led to the need for an intervention to improve residents' emotional and psychological well-being.
Methods
Developed and implemented a Life Story Book program to capture residents’ life histories, enhancing emotional and psychological engagement through reminiscing.
Results
Significant improvements in life satisfaction and emotional well-being as reflected in pre- and post-program assessments. Residents exhibited better engagement and reduced depressive symptoms.
Conclusion
The program has improved residents' quality of life, reduced depression, and is now extended to other Sunlove facilities.
Lessons Learnt
Engaging families and residents early, while balancing staff resources and emotional support, was key to the success of the program.
Additional Information
Life Story Book program scaled to Surya Nursing Home. The program continues with strong staff involvement.
