About this Content
Aims
1. To determine the prevalence of subsyndromal depression in a primary care population. 2. To explore factors associated with subsyndromal depression.
Background
SSD is defined as subclinical depression, associated with social dysfunction, anxiety, and higher risks of major depression.
Methods
A cross-sectional study with interviewer-assisted questionnaire and stratified sampling by age. Logistic regression identified associated factors.
Results
Prevalence of SSD was 16.6%. Younger age, Malay ethnicity, and non-married individuals had higher odds of SSD.
Conclusion
There is a high prevalence of SSD. Future studies should focus on mental health improvement and longitudinal effects of SSD.
Lessons Learnt
Perseverance and team cohesion ensured success. Coordination and regular updates were vital for completion within four months.
