About this Content
Aims
Develop an integrated multidisciplinary Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for obstetrics care, improving patient safety and operational efficiency.
Background
NUH’s Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology collaborated with Epic to develop STORK, Singapore’s first obstetrics-specific Next Generation EMR (NGEMR). Significant localization was required to adapt the US-based Epic system to Singapore’s obstetric care model.
Methods
Extensive reworking of Epic’s system to match local workflows, improve care coordination, and enhance patient safety within the maternal-baby dyad.
Results
STORK improved efficiency, patient safety, and integration across multidisciplinary teams. It also enhanced data extraction, enabling maternal outcome audits at an institutional and national level.
Conclusion
STORK represents a major step forward in obstetric EMR integration. Future improvements will focus on expanding its capabilities and national-level maternal outcome monitoring.
Lessons Learnt
Localization of global EMR systems is crucial for real-world clinical effectiveness. Data extraction features enable continuous improvements in maternal care quality.
