Aims
Automate emergency department (ED) registration and triage for minor conditions without compromising patient safety and confidentiality.
Background
Manual registration and triage in the ED is manpower-intensive and time-consuming, creating bottlenecks in patient flow and increasing workload.
Methods
Deployed STARK kiosks in the ED triage waiting area, allowing ambulatory patients with minor conditions to self-register and complete digital questionnaires.
Results
STARK reduced total triage time from 47 minutes to 3 minutes per patient, improving efficiency and reducing patient waiting times.
Conclusion
STARK is a feasible, cost-efficient, and safe alternative to manual triage. Future enhancements include AI-powered risk assessments for broader adoption.
Lessons Learnt
Automated triage solutions require proper integration with clinical workflows to ensure user adoption and optimize patient safety.
