About this Content
Aims
Reduce time taken to prepare showering items until transfer of resident to the bathroom during morning shift, prevent injury to residents and staff, and promote resident well-being and cooperation in showering.
Background
Lentor Health MacPherson Nursing Home started operations in August 2023. The need for a standardized showering process was identified to improve teamwork, efficiency, and resident care.
Methods
A3 thinking framework and Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) methodology were used. Initial analysis identified inefficiencies, and a rapid experiment was conducted in a pilot ward. New job instructions and staff assignments were implemented to streamline workflow.
Results
Time savings of 50% were achieved (10 minutes reduced to 5 minutes per resident). No incidents of resident or staff injuries were reported.
Conclusion
Sustainability involves improving staff adherence to processes, gathering feedback for refinement, and integrating training during onboarding.
Lessons Learnt
Establishing a structured work process enhances efficiency and teamwork. Staff ownership and active participation are crucial for sustainability.
