Background
Geylang Bahru, one of Singapore’s oldest housing estates, has a high care need population.
Methods
Engaged 26 befrienders, matched them with homebound seniors, curated wellness topics, and organized health-related activities.
Results
Enhanced peer interactions, health-seeking behaviors, and community engagement; promoted physical, mental, and social wellness.
Conclusion
Fostered sustainable care networks by training seniors as befrienders, showing positive impact on health-seeking behaviors and mental well-being.
Lessons Learnt
Recognized the influence of peer support in promoting health-seeking behaviors; adaptability is crucial in various settings.
