Aims
To engage nursing home residents through immersive cultural activities, reducing boredom and improving well-being.
Background
Residents unable to leave nursing homes experienced monotony, isolation, and a lack of mental stimulation.
Methods
Designed a “World Heritage Ward” with themed decorations; Conducted VR tours of heritage sites, flight simulations, and cultural activities; Engaged administrative staff as activity volunteers.
Results
Residents reported increased joy and satisfaction; staff engagement improved through volunteer participation; feedback highlighted a significant reduction in resident boredom.
Conclusion
Innovative VR-based cultural activities transformed nursing homes, improving emotional well-being for residents and boosting staff involvement.
Lessons Learnt
Regularly updating VR content and involving skilled volunteers ensures sustainability; manageable activity schedules enhance participation.
