About this Content
Aims
Reduce chronicity risk (Orebro score <40) for lumbar fusion patients from pre-op to 1 month post-op.
Background
Pre-operative physiotherapy was not standardized, and patients who skipped it had higher Orebro scores, indicating a higher risk of chronicity.
Methods
Introduced pre-op physiotherapy with education materials and a checklist for outpatient physiotherapists to standardize care.
Results
Reduced the average Orebro score from 45.5 to 35.6 points (low risk); improved patient outcomes within 1 month post-op.
Conclusion
Pre-operative physiotherapy sessions significantly lowered the chronicity risk for lumbar fusion patients, and this model can be applied to other surgical patients.
Lessons Learnt
Structured physiotherapy and patient education significantly reduced chronicity risk; checklists aided in consistency.
