Aims
To introduce NAO Robot to engage dementia patients in activities.
Background
The NAO robot was introduced to engage dementia patients in meaningful group activities, freeing up nursing staff time for other tasks.
Methods
Pilot group sessions with training for staff in using NAO Robot and Observed Emotion Rating Scale.
Results
Overall engagement showed 76.3%; observed improvements in pleasure (+25%), alertness (+46%), and reductions in anger (-4.2%) and anxiety (-6.3%). Saved 11 hours per month, equating to $4,775 in manpower costs.
Conclusion
AI solutions like NAO Robots can increase staff productivity while enhancing patient engagement and emotional well-being.
Lessons Learnt
Collaboration with programmers, design of a multi-purpose trolley for ease of movement, and care coordination were critical.
