To reduce inappropriate referrals, minimize delays, and optimize preoperative cardiac assessments for elective surgeries.
Background
Inefficient preoperative cardiac assessment processes caused delays and unnecessary referrals to NHCS.
Methods
Developed a referral guideline and workflow; held seminars and department meetings to communicate changes.
Results
Postponement rates reduced from 30% to 17%, unnecessary referrals decreased from 32% to 20%, saving SGD 74,045 annually.
Conclusion
Revised workflows enhanced resource optimization, cost savings, and patient satisfaction.
Lessons Learnt
Clear guidelines improve efficiency and satisfaction among patients and healthcare providers.
