Aims
Reduce overdue preventive maintenance (PM) incidences for medical equipment using asset tracking technology to improve efficiency and patient safety.
Background
Frequent missing medical equipment resulted in overdue PM, posing risks to patient care and operational inefficiencies. Nurses and biomedical engineers spent significant time locating devices, leading to maintenance delays.
Methods
An asset tracking system was implemented to provide real-time equipment location, automatic updates, and utilization status tracking, reducing manual searches and administrative burden.
Results
Overdue PM incidences significantly decreased. The system optimized equipment utilization, reduced downtime, and improved staff efficiency. Estimated manpower savings of 3.57 FTE annually.
Conclusion
Asset tracking enhanced medical equipment management, reducing maintenance delays and optimizing resource use. Further hospital-wide rollout is planned for maximizing efficiency.
Lessons Learnt
Selecting the right tracking technology was critical. Bluetooth/Wi-Fi-based tracking provided cost-effective and scalable implementation for real-time monitoring.
