Shorten patients' wait at the Standard Assessment Room and Nurses' Treatment Room
Background
Extended waiting at the Standard Assessment Room & Nurses Treatment Room lead to compromised service delivery and operational bottlenecks. Hence this ground-up initiative by nurses and Patient Service Associates at TTSH Geriatric Medicine Clinic to shorten patients' wait at these two aforementioned rooms.
Methods
Root-cause analysis, PICK chart, A3 Thinking
Results
(1) Wait Time shortened for Standard Assessment Room (far exceeded target); (2) Did not meet target reduction for Nurses Treatment Room; team will launch new project to focus & further work on this area
Lessons Learnt
(1) IT infrastructure improvements have rapid impact on Standard Assessment Room's efficiency (worth looking at this); (2) Workflow/Activities at Nurses Treatment Room more complex than originally anticipated (from teams' hindsight/reflection); (3) Future consideration: Best Practice Guidelines for peak-hour management across clinics (can help manage peak-hour crowd/waiting).
