About this Content
Aims
To introduce an ESAT service to handle emergency surgical conditions and trauma patients through consultant-led care and improved workflows.
Background
Traditional emergency surgical care models were inefficient and lacked dedicated consultant-led management. ESAT was introduced to optimize care delivery.
Methods
Retrospective review of pre- and post-ESAT outcomes using data metrics like time to intervention, length of stay, and trauma case fatality rates.
Results
Reduced time to GS review, improved consultant presence in OT, 27% reduction in mortality rates (1.9% to 0.9%). Length of stay reduced from 4.5 to 3.5 days. Significant improvements in trauma care and acute cholecystitis management.
Conclusion
ESAT reshaped emergency surgical care models, achieving better clinical, efficiency, and mortality outcomes without added manpower costs.
Lessons Learnt
ESAT successfully improved productivity and efficiency without increasing manpower. Tools like Patient Value Compass and OCI enabled value-driven care.
