Aims
Develop and implement Singapore’s first Speech Therapy (ST) tele-training and tele-consultation services for Nursing Homes (NH).
Background
COVID-19 restrictions halted healthcare worker movement to NHs, affecting essential ST services for dysphagia.
Methods
Conducted 17 tele-training sessions and 321 tele-consultations with NH staff and residents.
Results
Increased confidence in NH nurses; tele-consultation reduced aspiration pneumonia, dehydration, and malnutrition incidences.
Conclusion
Pioneered ST tele-consultation in Singapore, demonstrating sustainability and scalability for broader adoption.
Lessons Learnt
Full buy-in and ongoing collaboration from stakeholders are critical for sustainable adoption of tele-consultation.
