About this Content
Aims
Investigate associations of psychological factors (depression, anxiety, kinesiophobia, pain interference) with functional outcomes and quality of life in knee osteoarthritis (KOA).
Background
KOA is a top cause of chronic disability, but radiological severity alone cannot predict outcomes effectively. Psychological factors may play a significant role.
Methods
Cross-sectional study of 563 patients, with baseline measures (PHQ4, BFOM, PEG) and patient-reported outcomes (KOOS and EQ5D).
Results
Kinesiophobia, pain interference, depression, and anxiety were all significantly associated with poorer functional outcomes and QOL scores.
Conclusion
Psychological factors impact KOA outcomes; future research should explore targeted interventions for better management.
Lessons Learnt
Psychological factors must be actively screened and managed as part of holistic KOA care.
