Aims
Reduce patient time in clinic and healthcare costs.
Background
Increasing glaucoma cases stressed resources; long clinic visits risked delays and poor compliance.
Methods
Trained optometrists to run Optometrist-Assisted Clinics (OAC) for routine checks, freeing specialists.
Results
Reduced clinic time from 67 to 42 minutes; patient costs reduced by 54%; improved compliance and satisfaction.
Conclusion
OACs provide sustainable care delivery for growing demand and better access to specialists.
Lessons Learnt
Patients value efficient care; optometrists can effectively co-manage non-complex cases.
