Aims
To address social isolation for male seniors in the community and to grow positive self-identity through social engagement.
Background
The Men Only Happy Hour (MOHH) initiative was designed to overcome barriers such as misconceptions about Active Ageing Centres, gender bias in programming, and reluctance to participate in mixed-gender settings.
Methods
The program uses gender-specific programming, location strategy, social focus, and a health-promoting framework to engage male seniors.
Results
After the launch in August 2023, 175 men joined at least one Active Ageing Programme, with a weekly attendance of 25-30 men.
Conclusion
MOHH has demonstrated remarkable success in engaging male seniors and is positioned for program enhancement, community integration, and scaling.
Lessons Learnt
The initiative successfully engaged previously unreached male seniors and created authentic connections and ownership through peer-led programming.
