About this Content
Aims
Minimize time spent traveling between pharmacy and patient locations, reduce PPE donning and doffing, and minimize staff exposure to high-risk areas by implementing an autonomous medication delivery robot.
Background
EP staff were at risk of COVID-19 exposure while performing face-to-face medication dispensing and counseling, especially for patients with respiratory infections.
Methods
Implemented the PillBot robot to autonomously deliver medications and perform tele-counseling for patients.
Results
Achieved a 83% success rate with 221 successful trips out of 266. Reduced staff exposure to infection and improved overall operational efficiency.
Conclusion
The PillBot significantly improved medication delivery efficiency and staff safety, and it has been integrated into daily workflows.
Lessons Learnt
Early engagement with end users and continuous feedback were crucial for ensuring smooth implementation and acceptance of the system.
