Aims
Evaluate the safety of peripheral administration of vasoactive agents within a written protocol for patients in ED and ICU.
Background
Vasoactive agents are traditionally given via central venous catheters, but this involves complications and delays. Peripheral administration was evaluated for safety and efficiency.
Methods
Developed written protocol, provided training, conducted audits for compliance and safety.
Results
99.2% success rate with no complications; protocol reduced the need for CVC insertions.
Conclusion
Protocol is effective and transferrable. Integrating checklists into systems is planned.
Lessons Learnt
Multi-disciplinary teamwork and clear communication were key to success.
