Aims
Improve clients’ physical, social, and emotional well-being through outdoor experiential therapy.
Background
Seniors with dementia faced social isolation, frequent falls, and declining physical health.
Methods
Conducted outdoor programs: ball sports, parachute play, chair yoga, equine-assisted therapy, and walk-and-talk sessions.
Results
Physical mobility improved: standing/walking time reduced by 24%, sit-to-stand repetitions increased by 55%. Social/emotional well-being improved by 88%.
Conclusion
Experiential therapy significantly improved seniors’ physical and mental well-being while slowing cognitive decline.
Lessons Learnt
Building trust, incorporating clients’ hobbies, and focusing on safety increased participation and motivation.
