Aims
To develop a digitised, real-time tracking system for key operational metrics to improve situational awareness and decision-making in NUHS hospitals.
Background
Emergency Departments and Inpatient Departments were congested due to a lack of real-time situational awareness, exacerbated by the COVID-19 surge in October 2022.
Methods
The Hospital Flow Dashboard (HFD) was developed using the NGEMR (Epic) platform, and harmonised cluster-level response measures were created.
Results
The initiatives led to reduced bottlenecks, improved patient flow, and increased staff productivity, with significant reductions in manual reporting time.
Conclusion
The implementation of the HFD and harmonised mitigation actions enhanced proactive decision-making and resource optimisation.
Lessons Learnt
Real-time data-driven interventions are crucial for anticipating and mitigating hospital congestion.
