About this Content
Aims
To improve the quality and efficiency of cataract surgery by implementing a new lens solution.
Background
The documentation of selected lenses by Ophthalmologists at the clinic failed to display on the status-board for the operating theatre nursing team, causing inefficiencies.
Methods
The methodology involved a traditional approach with team discussions, technical exploration in the NGEMR Epic system, creating tests, stakeholder training, and modification of the selected lens information on the status board.
Results
The surgical team can view selected lens details at a glance, resulting in cost-effectiveness in printing and saving 3 hours of OT staff time daily.
Conclusion
The new solution improves patient safety, quality of care, and efficiency by eliminating unnecessary steps in viewing lens information.
Lessons Learnt
Continuous support and regular feedback engagement were crucial for successful implementation.
