About this Content
Aims
Achieve Length of Stay (LOS) of <1 day for lumbar spinal discectomy using the LEADS protocol.
Background
Traditional lumbar spinal discectomy required 2–6 days of hospitalization, causing high costs and stress on bed availability.
Methods
Implemented LEADS protocol: pre-op education, intraoperative endoscopic techniques, and post-op physiotherapy.
Results
LOS reduced to 0.55 days (from 2.38 days); VAS pain scores and ODI scores improved by 50% by POD 1 and POD 7.
Conclusion
LEADS protocol effectively reduced LOS, improved patient experience, and optimized resource utilization.
Lessons Learnt
Preoperative education, team collaboration, and perioperative rehab enhance success of short-stay surgery.
