Aims
To reduce outpatient visits for suspected WPW pattern by at least 75% without compromising diagnosis standards.
Background
ECG abnormalities among pre-enlistees caused referrals with suspected WPW patterns. Many suspicions were refuted, leading to wasted outpatient resources and costs.
Methods
Stakeholders performed process analysis and implemented two interventions: upstream review of ECGs and feedback loops to referring medical officers.
Results
Annualized healthcare cost savings of $101,000. Referrals reduced significantly post-intervention.
Conclusion
Streamlined referral workflows benefit both institutions by reducing resource wastage.
Lessons Learnt
Collaboration improves efficiency, reduces unnecessary visits, and optimizes resource utilization.
