About this Content
Aims
The aim of the project is to streamline the process of inpatient radiological preparation by integrating the Radiological Information System (RIS) with Sunrise Clinical Manager (SCM) to reduce stakeholder involvement and improve efficiency.
Background
The existing process of sending preparation instructions via email was cumbersome, involving multiple stakeholders and prone to errors, which delayed radiological investigations and affected patient care.
Methods
The project involved synchronizing RIS with SCM, simplifying preparation instructions, and reducing the number of stakeholders involved in the process. Training sessions were conducted for relevant staff, and feedback was collected during a pilot phase to refine the system.
Results
The integration led to significant improvements in efficiency and productivity, with a tripling of nurses finding it easy to retrieve patient preparation information and a doubling of nurses reporting better productivity and fewer errors. The system also reduced the number of stakeholders involved and eliminated the need for printed instructions.
Conclusion
The RIS-SCM integration successfully streamlined the workflow, reduced errors, and improved efficiency, making it a sustainable and adaptable solution for future needs.
Lessons Learnt
Engaging stakeholders early, providing proper training, and gathering continuous feedback were crucial for the project's success. More pilot areas could have highlighted additional challenges before full implementation.
