About this Content
Aims
To foster a culture of continuous improvement amongst staff by creating a space where staff can learn about improvement tools like design thinking, lean management, and change management.
Background
Currently, staff who are embarking on improvement projects do not have ready access to the suite of relevant problem-solving tools like design thinking, lean management, and change management. Some staff might have gone for relevant training but do not use these tools regularly, leading to a lack of confidence in using them effectively.
Methods
Phase 1 involved curating tools vital for problem-solving, conducting user trials, and designing an exhibition space with a tool library and discussion areas. Phase 2 included creating a digital component to augment the experience, with a desktop version via Figma and a mobile version via an interactive PDF.
Results
The physical experience saw over 320 visitors from external organizations, and all 33 tool brochures were fully consumed within 5 months. The digital experience, launched in August 2024, saw 60 downloads of the mobile version and 48 accesses of the desktop version. The tool 'SIPOC' was the most downloaded with 71 downloads.
Conclusion
The exhibition successfully supported innovation and improvement projects, though visitorship remains modest. There is demand for the tools, but continuous printing of brochures may not be sustainable. Allowing users to download soft copies is a viable alternative.
Lessons Learnt
For exhibitions in low-traffic areas, more emphasis on outreach or a grander launch would have been effective. A digital interactive element could have been designed from the start to help participants navigate the space better.
Additional Information
The project is shared on CHILD, a national knowledge management initiative, to contribute to healthcare innovation, improvement, and productivity.
