Equip and empower volunteers to perform para-clinical tasks in TKR rehabilitation, improving exercise compliance and outcomes.
Background
Poor exercise compliance among TKR patients led to suboptimal knee ROM, a key indicator of recovery and satisfaction.
Methods
Designed and implemented a structured training program for volunteers; assessed outcomes with PDSA cycles.
Results
Volunteer-guided exercises increased patient ROM achievement rates from 75% to 83.8%; improved patient motivation and reduced staff workload.
Conclusion
Expanded to other acute institutions and community partners, creating a larger community of carers.
Lessons Learnt
Effective teamwork, mutual respect, and stakeholder engagement are crucial for program success and sustainability.
