Aims
Improve the utilisation of Short Stay Ward (SSW) in Ambulatory Surgery Centre (ASC).
Background
The bed occupancy rate was high; SSW offered an alternative to inpatient stays for certain procedures.
Methods
Workgroup formed, identified suitable procedures, implemented nurse-led discharge, monitored outcomes.
Results
SSW cases increased by 91% (537 bed days saved), utilization of SSW beds rose from 20% to 38%.
Conclusion
The initiative alleviated the bed crunch, reduced costs, and ensured quality post-op care.
Lessons Learnt
Engaging departments and data-driven approaches improved adoption and efficiency.
