Aims
To increase spinal cord injured patients' participation in out-of-bed leisure activities for 30 minutes daily, from 25% to 70%.
Background
Spinal cord injured patients were at risk of developing a hypoactive lifestyle, which impacts their physical fitness and overall well-being.
Methods
Standardized referral and scheduling processes for out-of-bed activities, included structured programs during meal times, and allocated specific manpower.
Results
Increased the percentage of patients sitting out of bed for leisure activities from 25% to 70%.
Conclusion
The intervention improved patient outcomes by increasing physical activity, contributing to better health and rehabilitation for spinal cord injured patients.
Lessons Learnt
Collaboration among multidisciplinary teams and involving patients/families were key to achieving success.
