About this Content
Aims
To explore possibilities of formulating a safe and achievable standardized timeframe on receiving loaner instrumentation for a more efficient supply chain; safer and seamless surgical experience for patients with industrial partners' support.
Background
Variations in the management of loaner implantation instruments raised serious sterility concerns and patient safety issues. Discussions were held at the Asia Safe Surgical Implant Consortium in Tokyo, Japan, highlighting these variations.
Methods
Repeated PDCA cycles were employed with numerous discussions and studies. Ground surveys were conducted, gaps in processes were identified, and solutions were brainstormed. A Vendor Progress Chart was set up, and meetings with industrial partners and stakeholders were conducted.
Results
Significant improvement in vendor delivery timing was achieved, with increased satisfaction levels among CSSU and MOT staff. The project won a Distinction Award at WHOQIP 2024.
Conclusion
Efforts benefited patient safety by improving reprocessing quality through timely delivery of vendor instrument sets. This promoted an optimal work environment for staff.
Lessons Learnt
Enhanced rapport and mutual appreciation between OT and CSSU staff reduced stress levels. Acknowledging challenges faced by industrial partners helped devise viable solutions.
