Aims
To introduce Endoscopy Technicians to replace nurses in endoscope reprocessing tasks to reduce costs and burnout.
Background
NTFGH Endoscopy unit faced staffing shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic, affecting outpatient procedures and causing staff burnout.
Methods
Structured onboarding training for technicians, quality control, and infection audits.
Results
Reduced nurse overtime, improved job satisfaction (from 65% to 85%), and lowered manpower costs by S$96,096 annually.
Conclusion
Significant cost reductions, enhanced job satisfaction, and increased capacity for procedures achieved through redesign.
Lessons Learnt
Structured training optimised nursing job redesign, demonstrating success with multidisciplinary approaches.
