About this Content
Aims
1. To describe the health related quality of life (HRQL) of a multiracial, Asian interstitial lung disease (ILD) patient cohort using the King’s Brief ILD questionnaire (K-BILD) and EuroQoL 3-level (EQ5D-3L). 2. To investigate the associations between the K-BILD and EQ5D-3L scores and various clinical variables.
Background
Many interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) have high symptom burden with major influence on health-related quality of life (HRQL). Understanding HRQL of ILD patients allows physicians to gain insight into the disease burden and treatment effects.
Methods
A prospective, cross-sectional study of ILD patients using two HRQL questionnaires: K-BILD and EQ5D-3L, analyzing data via multiple linear regression.
Results
HRQL scores revealed better quality of life for ILD patients compared to existing studies. DLCO %pred was a significant predictor of HRQL.
Conclusion
HRQL is significantly impaired in ILD patients, with low DLCO %pred being a strong predictor. IPF patients had the poorest HRQL scores among subtypes.
Lessons Learnt
Handling real-world data differs from theoretical learning. Team collaboration and mentorship were critical in overcoming steep learning curves.
