About this Content
Aims
Improve glaucoma screening by enhancing community-based eye screening models.
Background
Traditional community eye screening (via MOH Project Silver Screen) does not detect glaucoma effectively, leading to undiagnosed vision loss.
Methods
Integrated Glaucoma screening into community Functional Screening (FiLCES and SeLECT), training nurses and optometrists for primary detection.
Results
7% of seniors with normal Visual Acuity (VA) had abnormal glaucoma assessment, leading to early detection and referrals for treatment. Cost reduced to $10-$39 per patient.
Conclusion
G-CARE enhances glaucoma screening while maintaining cost-effectiveness. Future steps involve refining AI tools and expanding its reach.
Lessons Learnt
Training community nurses and optometrists enhances screening effectiveness. Integration into Functional Screening models improves accessibility.
